| Herbalism is used in Ayurvedic, Chinese, and Western medicine to aid in the healing process. The cause of an illness is the main basis for diagnosis instead of just treating and relieving symptoms. Herbs are said to remove toxins from the body and promote healing in order to return the body to a balanced state of health. They are prescribed according to which body system is affected or requires stimulation to fight disease. Herbs can be used in many different forms including pills, powders, extracts, ointments, tinctures, and teas.
