  • Vitamin E and sodium pyruvate were found to speed up the healing of lesions in a study published in Dermatologist Surgery Journal. The active component, CTR, was found responsible for the healing of infected and non-infected wounds. Vitamin E is found in cold-water fish, cod liver oil, butter and egg yolks.
  • The amino acid arginine has been linked to the growth of the herpes virus. Foods high in arginine are peanuts, cashews and chocolate.
  • The amino acid lysine, on the other hand, is commonly used to suppress the spread and re-occurrence of the virus. Some lysine-rich foods are cheese, milk, fish, lamb and beef.
  • There are several websites that suggest reducing your caffeine intake as well as white and wheat flour ingestion and focus on eating more fruits and vegetables on a daily basis.
  • With all of the above supplementation, consult with your doctor first before following any course of treatment. This is especially true if you are currently taking medications.
